All our classes are closed because of government restrictions under lockdown. Many places where we used to go and teach, they have been completely locked down and no one is even allowed to move. Many have tested positive from those bastis and villages. Our staff has also been told to stay at home, in order to avoid getting them infected too. As a humanitarian gesture, we are paying salary to our staff.

Our Self Help Group is also closed because of government orders, but as a social commitment members of our team are working from home, producing cloth masks for distribution among poor and underprivileged.

Lockdowns are tough for everyone, especially the highly energized children. It is tough to keep them usefully occupied. Living within confines of a house is tough for them and nerves are easily frayed.
We try to involve children in various activities which they cannot in their daily routine due to schools and other things to do.
Gardening is one of them....

|
Fixing a time for studies is another way of having a semblance of routine in their lives.....
|
|
Getting up early and doing yoga goes a long way in keeping them healthy...

|
Helping in household chores.....

In the picture above, you can see Dr. Pandey carrying Mishty outside Himalayan Institute (a well known hospital in Uttarakhand), whom each one of you must be knowing, is a child with Cerebral Palsy and we all have been tirelessly trying our bit to make her walk. Mishty has been going through all the physiotherapy and speech therapy sessions at home everyday and has been also enrolled in a special school.
Recently, her doctor suggested for Botox treatment for her legs and we went for it making the best use of this lockdown period as all the members of the house will be at home and can spend more time with her exercising and we are really hopefull that she may walk one day and this will make her condition better. Her legs were plastered for a week and now the doctors say the exercise should be rigorous and we are following the same with the physiotherapist coming twice a day and we make sure we also make her exercise.

As COVID-19 continues to impact communities around the world, I would like to take a moment to thank all the doctors, nurses and other health workers who are caring for people on the front lines. And here is our ever smiling person, Dr. Nitin Pandey, who is working tirelessly for the same and still managing to help so many.
We all can help doctors like him by doing our duty of not venturing out of our unecessarily and move out only well protected.

Dear Everyone,
We are living in unprecedented and challenging times. The Coronavirus outbreak is a major global crisis, leaving its mark in almost all the countries present in this world. It is affecting all our lives in different ways. It is demanding patience, faith and compassion from all us as individuals. As a global comminuty on the other hand it is testing our spirit of togetherness.
Sadly, with the lockdown across India over the last month, the donations we receive have literally come down to half. Probably everyone is under stress and spare money is hard to come by. Through this email, I would like to request everyone who is reading this, to help us out in these dire times by donating. Anything you donate will go a long way in helping us in this time of crisis. Here are the various ways you can donate:

I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all our supporters for their ongoing love and trust in us. And that is how it should be. Without underplaying the magnitude of crisis, it is crucial that we do not lose sight of Saheli's vision and ensure that people in need are not left behind. After all, particularly in a crisis like this where it is the vulnerable in society that are most at risk, we must work even harder to ensure that people who are most vulnerable are protected.
We are sure that if all of us together play our part we will make it through these testing times. And lastly, I wish you and your families good health and high spirits in these trying times, may we all come out stronger and wiser on the other side.
Thanking you all.
Shruti Kaushik,
Secretary,
Saheli Trust
