Dear Everyone,

Greetings from Saheli Trust.
I hope this email finds you in good health and high spirits.
The only moto of Saheli Trust is to bring positive transformations in lives of people particularly the ones who are get less opportunities in life! Quality not quantity is what we have been focussing on since the birth of Saheli. The immense happiness we get when a 65 years old dynamic woman comes to our classes and holds a pencil and copy for the first time in her life! To hear a Cerebral Palsy child speaking her first few words! Life is simple & it finds peace in the simplest of things.

Education@YourDoorStep

We started two new classes, for adolescent girls & women, at Kailashpur and Dehrakhas, first one being located in a village and the other in an urban slum. Families here give no importance to education as stress is more on earning and none of our students in these classes have ever attended school. We have seen a strong will to learn among all our students irrespective of their ages!!

OUTREACH

These Rooftop meetings have their own significance which cannot be ignored! We learn a lot of important issues of our society which has to be addressed and tackled.
In most of the meets, these women and girls are not educated. Few among them are educated but are dropouts, some from standard 5 and some from 8. Only 1 percent among them are graduate. Most of them are illiterate !

When asked about conducting classes for them, they unanimously say Yes ! They want this special privilege to be called as LITERATE. To be able to read and write.
It is tough to make them understand the value of work when they can't even think of getting proper education.
This one was in Chor Khala near Kishan Nagar chowk. Women were sensitized about their rights, domestic violence and importance of education. Many of them shared their problems related to Domestic Violence with us for which we will try our best to find solutions. Many of them lacked basic education and wanted to be financially independent.

This one was conducted in Rukkaiya Chowk, Harbhajwala, ouskirts of Dehradun. Saheli Women Helpline's number was circulated and Domestic Violence Act was discussed with the women.

Another such meeting was held at Noor colony, Tuntuwala.

To these woman education and women's rights are something to laugh about! Had to show them what women can do and achieve. For them women's work is at home and taking care of children. Though most of us take care of our children and home and at the same time work and manage both the things together. Had to give them many such examples to come out of their comfort zone. Also, they were hesitant to start studying and learn. We will be soon working among them, teaching them and side by side learning from them. After all we learn from our students too!

Saheli Residence

With God's grace and your blessings and support we have been able to buy land for building up Saheli residence. All this long, seven years since Saheli started we have been managing in rented home, shifted to 4 such homes in these last years and every time when there is time to change the house we literally have this tension building up and it is a very difficult task to find an independent house for children and girls. We bought 230 sq.yds of land in Chandrabani area, close to our present accommodation. We have also got approval from the Mussorie & Dehradun Development Association permission to build a 2 storey building for housing 25 children. We are now in the process of raising funds for the construction. More details are here:

The journey of Saheli Trust in the foothills of Himalayas in Uttarakhand started in April 2013 to bring sustainable smile on the faces of our children and women and girls of our society. Ever since the days of inception we have been concentrating our efforts on bringing out revolutionary and radical changes in the society. It all began with a group of just few committed people, but as time passed more and more enthusiastic and committed people like you came and joined us to strive for the envisioned changes.

It is YOU, your support, love and trust in us that Saheli has been reaching out and spreading love and hopes. I am so happy to share with you all about our land, it is like a dream come true!! Even a million thanks will not be enough. We also got our FCRA approved, we now need funds for our Saheli Residence project, which we will uploading on the website as well. Please donate for the same, any amount is welcomed, please spread the word about it.
