Culmination of a long struggle !

It was about 2 years ago we welcomed a trafficked girl into Sahelitrust family. We all are so happy to share with you, that those who perpetrated untold horrors on this young girl, were sentenced, in December, to 10 years in prison each and have to pay Rs 1 lakh each to this girl. It was a long battle, hard fought with moments of intense tension, but the result was worth it.

Though it will not make any direct difference to this girl, but the news of this sentencing will definitely spread in her village and the surrounding area of Chakrata and perhaps dissuade others who might try and sell their daughters.

A big thank you to all those who supported us financially in fighting this battle, a big thank you to our lawyer, Ms Anjana Sahwney, who fought so hard in court

We were thrilled to have as our guest, Mrs Karuna Pandey, a Colors TV artist who is seen in many serials. She took the trouble of searching for us on the net and then booking a SheCab from the Airport.
Another good news is that Pushpa, our young judo player, won gold in District inter school Judo championship held in Dehradun in Mid December.
Students, past and present, who have undergone our Education@YourDoorstep program in Mehuwala mafi, over ?? two years were called for a "reunion" to stress on our ties, even after the 2 month long course finishes. The children played games and had a nice experience.
Community Meetings
Community meetings were held in Noor Basti (Left above) & in Mehuwala Mafi village (Right above ) on the outskirts of Dehradun. Out Outreach program has a reach of almost 70 villages and over 5000 houses in 2018, which is the highest number we have surveyed so far.
Education@YourDoorStep
Our efforts at educating the rural girl child continued with 6 classes every day across different villages/ urban slums.
The pictures below are from different villages around Dehradun, where classes are in progress.
The Hindu festival of lights "Diwali" was celebrated with great enthusiasm and festivities on 7th November. As is the tradition, the children feasted on sweats and lit up the house with earthen lamps and burst a few crackers.
Hello !
Dear Everyone,

Greetings from Saheli,

The image above is of an article published in a very reputed National newspaper about SheCab, our women's only cab service. I'm so happy to share it with you, as it shows our efforts are being recognized.

Pushpa, our young judo player earned laurels for all of us, by winning a gold medal at district level judo championship. If groomed properly, she has a long way to go, with her coach, confident that she may reach international level, by the time she is out of school.

With winters setting in, our outreach team finds the going tough, it is too cold to venture in narrow unpaved roads of villages on scooters, but they are a strong lot. You must see how they work, to fully realize how tough their work is.

Also, i would be more than happy if you have any questions or suggestions about our work. New ideas can help us grow. Criticism can also help us improve, so both are more than welcome. Please reply to this email if you need to convey anything to us.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year from all of us here in Saheli,
Regards,

Shruti Kaushik,
