An interactive session on Women's Rights was held in New Khala Goan, which is on way to Mussorie from Rajpur. It is a small village of 15 households and the women were very receptive to the initial interaction. This was our first visit to the village and we plan to adopt it as well. The other villages / bastis we regularly visit being Sapera Basti and Kathbanglow 1 & 2.

After Bea, our volunteer from UK left, we were luck enough to have with us Genevievie, from London with us for a month, as a volunteer. She will be teaching our girls English and it was nice to see her striking an instant rapport with our girls.

Greetings from Saheli,
Let me begin with a personal note. This month I was really humbled by being nominated and then receiving the prestigious Dr BC Roy Award for Social Work. I am highly indebted to each one of you, because without your help and blessings, i would have never been able to do the little, I've managed to do as a part of the Saheli family. God Bless each and everyone of this family.
June was a rather quiet month, after a long long time. Inaugurating Llittle Angle's Creche was just the beginning of a new battle. It was relatively easy. The main task now before us was to publicize it and get people to trust us. Being a new entrant in the field, makes getting the first child in the creche difficult. With your blessings and support, I'm sure we will soon start the ball rolling. For those who many not know about the creche, well, it is a fund raising activity, designed to raise funds for running the Saheli Women's & Children's Shelter. As you may know we spend around INR 60,000 each month on the shelter and raising this amount is not easy, given that we do not have any government or corporate support, hence the idea of generating funds through the creche.
Running Saheli without your support will be extremely difficult, so we always look forward to your active support. I would like to request you to please forward this newsletter to your friends and relatives, the more people know about us the more likely are they to help us. So please do forward it right away.
Also I would like to appeal to everyone is to help us out with donations. You can "adopt" a child for Rs 3000/- per month, for as long as you like. You can stop the donations as and when you wish, no questions asked. This amount of Rs 3000/- includes Rs 800/- for studies, Rs 2000/- for food and Rs 200/- towards personal expenses. Details of ways to donate are here:

Please remember, each rupee counts and please don't think that there are many "others" who will help us. Do help us yourself too. We now have 80G, so you get tax benefit too.
And finally, a big request to everyone is to please help us grow by giving us advice on the way forwards, by pointing out our mistakes and by suggesting new ideas to us. Please do not hesitate in criticizing anything you don't like. All you need to do is to reply to this newsletter. And if you live in Dehradun, or if you ever visit our city, my earnest appeal to you is to visit us. Do call me and I shall be honored to arrange a visit for you. My number is +91-9760371958.
With regards,
Shruti Kaushik,
Secretary, Saheli
